A customer have 210 AP in the office building. The contollers are deployed in his data center. Customer ask for redundancy at lowest cost possible. now I have a question about 2 possible setups. We use 2 controllers

setup 1  :  master active / master standby.

all the AP are terminated to the master active. When master active fails, the master standby become the active one. All the AP are swapped to the new active one.

    setup 2 : master / local

the AP's are terminated to the local

in case the local fails --> the AP's are swapped to the master.

in case the master fails --> the AP's are still working but some features are not available any more. ex non config changes,....

my question is : what will have the best failover time for the AP's?

    regards.

Master/local with HA: AP fast failover.

is it also not possible for HA in an active - standy setup ?

1:1 Active/Standby Deployment model In this model, the controller in active mode supports up to 100% of its rated capacity of APs, while the other controller in standby mode is idle. If the active controller fails, all APs served by the active controller would failover to the standby controller. Figure 2 1:1 Active/Standby Deployment Click to view a larger size.

#1 is best, because you can still configure the controller.  The failover time is not very much different.  The thing that takes the longest is the clients connecting back to the APs.
