A formula to calculate how height should the antenna mount from ground

Hi,

Just to verify, is there any formula to calculate how height for below antenna mount from ground?

- single band Omi directional antenna
- E-Plane – 18º
- H-Plane - 360º
- 6.0 dBi

Cause i want a best coverage once i mount in on a pole.

There's no concrete guidelines on this. It all depends on what your needs are, the environment it will be placed in, what kind of range you need, and if you need good coverage close to the AP. The risk with going too high is the clients close to the AP will have poor coverage as they are located within the null of the coverage pattern. Too low and you loose range. If you have lots of nearby buildings, going higher might be OK since you will have a lot of multipath.

6dBi omnis with an 18deg vertical are pretty wide vertically, around 15 feet AGL would likely be ideal, 20 might be doable if there are nearby structures to provide some multipath. The best way to tell for sure is to try both, or more, as you might be able to go higher.
