IAP-215 SSID not broadcasting - PEBK or eBay junk?

    Posted Apr 13, 2021 11:35 AM

    Hi All,

I picked up several 215's from eBay from a seller with a pretty good history, and not sure if I am doing something wrong, or the AP's are simply bad.

Can not get Instand SSID or other to broadcast.

I've set default IP/Mask/DG, and standalone_mode=1 and factory reset also, to no avail.
Telnet to static ip is rejected.

    Any suggestion?

Have you tried on a network that has no internet access? Factory reset, and let it get an address via DHCP. The AP may be reaching out to activate or central and might be tied to someones account. Disadvantage of buying grey market.

Are you certain these are IAPs? Is there a sticker on the back saying IAP-215 or AP-215. If these are AP-215 you will need a controller connect them. Reason being is looking at the console output you have provided they are 1) Running ArubaOS as opposed to an Instant Firmware and 2) These are looking for a master (physical controller) via ADP.

    [ 0.000000] ArubaOS Version 6.4.1.0 (build 43882 / label #43882)

    192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.2
    Running ADP...

    servername=aruba-master

If these are Instant APs, you can factory reset them and you will see the Instant SSID. If they are AP-215 then you will need a physical controller and there will be no Instant SSID.

cat: /tmp/master: No such file or directory
    Done. Master is

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for your help, and sorry for wasting your time.

These were actually AP215's, and not IAP's.
As a Cisco guy, I was easily confused with the naming convention, Instant, Instant on, etc.

I believe the problem was as stated, these were not Instant, but CAP's.
Also had an issue where they would power-up connected to my 620 controller, but not bring the radios up. I believe that is because the controller was not at Aos6.4.2.

At this point, I just returned them and have several actual IAP-215's coming, which should solve the problem.

Thanks very much for your help!
