AP-515 with Cisco PoE switch

    Hi,

    I have a couple of Aruba 515 IAPs connected to a Cisco 802.3af switch. The AP system LED is giving solid RED light. Also the radios are disabled. I have enabled LLDP in the switch as well as IPM in the AP. But still radios are not coming up. Please see the power status below.

    LLDP Power : Successfully negotiated at 13.0W
    Current Operational State : 1 ETH port disabled; USB power disabled; All radios disabled
    Eth0 HW POE status : POE AF, LLDP power: 13.0W

    How can I make it work with Cisco 802.3af switches?

    Also I have tried connecting this to a Cisco 802.3at switch with LLDP enabled, but there also the system LED was giving RED light. What am I missing here? My main concern is to make it work with Cisco 802.3at switches.

    you need to enable Intelligent Power mgmt (IPM)
    (Instant AP)(config)# ipm
    (Instant AP)(ipm)# enable

    also note this from the datasheet

    see if you can configure the switch to provide the full class4 PoE (15.4). like providing PoE by watts or class without negotiating.

    Managed to get it work. Disabled CDP on the port, enabled lldp and IPM on the AP.

    Hi,

    I've found you need to make sure the switch is using  802.3atPoE (aka PoE+). Even if it seems to boot on a lower class of PoE (like 802.3af) the AP won't get all the radios running like they should. 

    Especially when using a power injector, use PoE+
