Hi Reader, do you encounter any attenuation config in Aruba Instant APs ? How you did the configuration & what is your baseline ?
Appreciate your response as currently we are still processing the subscription to tap Aruba TAC support. Thank you

If you are talking about best practices for setting radio powers, see below. As for taking the wall attenuation into consideration, it is recommended that you measure the attenuation of your wall, as results can differ. If it is a concrete wall with rebar, most likely you will lose about 12-15dB per .5 meters of wall thickness. And also depending on what type of glass you are working with (Thin panes, thick tempered glass, or LEED certified glass) your results could be anywhere from 3-15dB.

Measure both sides of the wall with something like ekahau or airmagnet to get your attenuation. These give the most accurate measurements, but you could use one of your devices if no other option is available.

and to configure it is by going to the VC and either modifying the default RF profiles or creating a new ones.

There is no specific setting in Instant for attenuation in your environment. You should work the other way around, and design the location of your APs to the physical environment, where you should strive to put the APs as close as possible to the users. If you put them behind thick walls or other RF-blockers, you are likely to get a poor experience. The classical example is the 'hallway deployment'; where APs are placed in the hallways, but coverage is needed in the adjacent rooms. That has a lot of issues and the approach is unlikely to have a good performing network.

It's always good to create a proper design before you deploy your APs, and depending on the characteristics of your site, that can be a simple predictive design, or you should use the tools mentioned above to actually measure the signal strengths (like with an AP-on-a-stick survey). Your Aruba partner should be able to advise specifically for your environment; it's hard to give proper advice without knowing the environment.
