Hi Steve, what you wrote is totally reasonable and shareable, I understand that it's quite difficult to predict where and how a software development is going to evolve (so a flowering of concurrent software releases within the same AOS-CX Major release could happen), mine was and still it is just a worry and I hope it's going to happen less likely, as you suggested.
To be honest we should also admit that
promoting a particular AOS-CX software release because is labelled as a "conservative release" doesn't help at all since all published AOS-CX software releases for three years now are labelled as "conservative release(s)" in ASP; in other terms, that particular adjective ("conservative") - in that context - doesn't help to differentiate, actually ;-).
Thanks for answering and, given November is just around the corner, let we see what AOS-CX 10.09 will bring us!
Edit 02-11-2021: given what's written in the latest
Aruba NetEdit 2.1.3 Release Notes the next-to-came (as of today) AOS-CX 10.08 software build to be supported by that tool will be the 10.08.
1020...so, in the end, it looks like the 10xx software builds will probably continue over the 00xx builds.

to your last point relating to diverging branch software on the CX platform, there are no absolute guarantees that can be given for the future software releases, but it is less likely rather than more likely.
Customer requirements are often unique which can drive a branch in software for a specific fix/enhancement in sensitive environments, like manufacturing for example, where the customer's switch software testing and release program are on a strict predictable fixed release cycle. This type of example is relatively infrequent but they do occur from time to time.
AOS-CX 10.08.1010 as a conservative release would be a prudent choice after a satisfactory review of the open caveats. It has 'fixes' from AOS-CX 10.08.0001 release, and of course we have AOS-CX 10.09 scheduled for release in November.

As said, what is worrying me much is that I don't want to discover that, in just few days, Aruba will publish - let me say - AOS-CX 10.08.00zz (whatever will be zz) and, concurrently, keeping open the AOS-CX 10.08.10zz software line (thus having potentially two diverging branches of the same 10.08 branch, exactly as happened, at some point, with 10.04 <- at time the 10.04.30zz branch was due to the new-to-come 6400 platform IIRC)...and since the new Aruba CX 10000 platform is just around the corner (02/2022) I've some suspects...although I've read references speaking about AOS-CX 10.10 with Aruba CX 10000 Switch Series...maybe my suspects/doubts are instead totally unrelated with the AOS-CX 10.08.10zz versus 10.08.00zz affair, totally possible the only AOS-CX 10.08 to come will be 10.08.10zz and so there will be no discussion at all.
I admit the title of the thread I started is wrong, the right one should be: ArubaOS-CX 10.08 Software Releases: are going to be concurrent 10.08.yy-- (yy=10|00) software builds as happened during 10.04 software cycle or not?

both releases, 10.08.0001 and 10.08.1010 are conservative releases. A general steer is to adopt the latest conservative release unless the open defects are impactful to the network. I would check the release notes in 10.08.1010 and review. Release 10.08.1010 has multiple fixes which were flagged as open in 10.08.0001.

Hello all, in a few days I'm going to deploy a VSX of Aruba 8360 and, looking at the two ArubaOS-CX 10.08 software builds released up to now, I'm wondering if I should start with ArubaOS-CX 10.08.0001 or ArubaOS-CX 10.08.1010.
I'm worried about the fact that 00zz and 10zz software builds could become two separate and concurrent branches as it happened on AOS-CX 10.04 (do you remember the concurrency of AOS-CX 10.04.00zz and 10.04.30zz software paths)?
If the above will be true, what's about to stay on 10.08.00zz instead of jumping into the 10.08.10zz bandwagon? or the the software development path for next releases will be focused on 10.08.10zz only and that will be the path to follow since the start with the AOS-CX 10.08?

The ArubaOS-CX Software Image's naming convention is LL.10.xx.yyzz (Aruba 8360) and:
- xx denotes the Major release number (example: 10.04.0001 and 10.05.0001 are Major releases -> yy will typically be zero for a Major release)
- yy denotes the Minor release number (example: 10.04.1000 or 10.04.3000 are Minor releases)
- zz denotes the Maintenance release number, these are ongoing Maintenance releases for a given Major or Minor release (example: 10.04.0042 is a Maintenance release for 10.04.0001 Major release, 10.04.3010 is a Maintenance release for 10.04.3000 Minor release, 10.05.0010 is a Maintenance release for 10.05.0001 Major release and so on -> zz will typically be numbers other than 00 and 01 for a Maintenance release)
