    Hello Sir,
Please how do I use the management port on Aruba 6300M to configure the switch. Is it possible to console into the switch via the management port? If yes how do I do it.
    Thanks in advance.

The management port is an Ethernet interface that gets its address via DHCP by default. By default, management through the management port is off, and you can turn it on via  the console connection. The console port is a serial connection and is different from the management port. Your switch should have come with a Bluetooth adapter as well which should allow you to get started by applying these initial configurations with a smart device using the Aruba CX app.

    Thanks so much Dustin,

I have already configured IP on the management port but I could not ssh nor telnet to the port. I connected my laptop to the port assigned IP in same subnet to the laptop but ssh nor telnet work for me.

Is there anything I need to add?

    Thanks once again

    Thanks again Dustin,
You have really resolved it for me. I missed bellow lines:

    8320-lower(config)# ssh server vrf mgmt

    8320-lower(config)# ssh server vrf default

We appreciate the good work you are doing in the community.

    Hello All,
I would humbly like to ask about which CLI command is used to backup and restore configuration in case of a unit failure.

    Good Day All,
Please my clustered 6300M Stack-Core is so critical on the network and I have been thinking how one could recover swiftly when one unit or the whole cluster is down.
Which command can backup all configurations in the three units and restore smoothly without any issue.
    Thanks.
    Regards
    Danny

In the CLI you can grab a copy of the config by running the following. This can be scripted:

    copy [startup-config or running-config] [tftp://server/file or sftp://server/file]

Managament platforms like Airwave can automate this for you.

You can also get a backup via GUI here:

    Thanks so much once again.

As I said earlier I have been able to download the image for 6300M but not able to upgrade both primary and secondary image from the USB drive. The USB is enabled and well mounted. Below is what I see and nothing else. show images display the old image not the new one.

    both commands produce same error
    switch# copy primary usb:/ArubaOS-CX_6400-6300_10_05_0030.swi
    switch# copy usb:/ArubaOS-CX_6400-6300_10_05_0030.swi primary

""Error: Verifying and writing system firmware...
    6300#
    Thanks Sir

Hi! could you please first report to us the output of the show usb command? Thanks.

We clearly expect to see the USB as enabled and mounted and, just for the notice, the USB flash drive should be FAT16/FAT32 formatted with a single partition.

A second step would be to check what is inside the USB flash drive's filesystem.

Supposing an already mounted USB flash drive (once in ServiceOS Bash you could use the mount -l to see what was already mounted):

6300# start-shell <- this is needed to start the ServiceOS Bash

    6300:~$ cd /mnt/usb

6300:/mnt/usb$ ls -la <- please report the output of this command

6300:~$ exit <- this is needed to exit from the ServiceOS Bash

Pay attention that your two actions are one the contrary of the other:

    1. copy primary usb:/filename.ext will copy the actual Firmware Primary Flash area of the Switch into the USB flash drive - which is the remote URL - using the filename.ext file.
    2. copy usb:/filename.ext primary will copy the filename.ext file (expected to be found) into the USB flash drive - which is again the remote URL - into the Firmware Primary Flash area of the Switch.

P.S. Please note that usb:/filename.ext is just a simple way for me to define the <REMOTE-URL> since you're using an USB.

    Kind regards.

Could you also show us the current output of show images and show version commands? also the show events output with just logs that are related to (and appearing during) a mount, unmount and writing/reading operations...would be interesting. Thanks.

    Hello All,
The issue has to do with a corrupt image that we were using to upgrade. What we downloaded previously was 689mb in size.
We went back to Aruba portal and downloaded the same image at 627mb in size and used it to upgrade successfully.
Thanks so much for the excellent support.
    Regards
    Danny

Hi! glad you found the guilty part...a suggestion (I do that): always - always - always - again always - compute the downloaded file's Hash (MD5, SHA1 or SHA256 when available)...and compare it to what was officially published by the software provider (Aruba in this case)...no more headaches...or, at least, less headaches.

Wow, this is a great point David. Please how do I compute it as I have never heard of this before. This is the first in my life.
Grateful if you could guide me through this.

    Thanks a lot.

Hi Danny, I believe that googling a little bit (search for "calculating file's hash") will fully satisfy your learning desire.

What I generally do is (your mileage may vary considering the hash values available and the workstation's OS where you compute those hash values):

    • Download the file.
    • Download the Hash values provided by who is publishing the downloaded file (generally it means downloading a text file with MD5, SHA1 and/or SHA256 values for that very file or for multiple files).
    • Compute the hash value of downloaded file using the appropriate algorithm (e.g. on a Windows OS based host I use the Power-Shell command get-filehash -Algorithm <sha1|md5|sha256> <filename> but if you have a Linux OS, commands are clearly different, such as md5sum <filename>, sha1sum <filename> or sha256sum <filename>)
    • Compare - literally - computed hash value with the relevant one published by the file's publisher.

It's really a short mechanical process...if the hash values (computed versus published) match you are then sure that what you downloaded is exactly what was published.

This doesn't imply that there will not be issues with the downloaded file...think about the case where the published file is corrupted in origin (but the published hash values - nevertheless they are computed too - reflect it correctly)...or the case where sometime - it happened - the published Hash values are not computed correctly but the published file was OK (not corrupt)...that's to say that, at least, you know that your downloading process did not corrupt what was made available by the file publisher on its web site and your downloaded file is equal to the one that was published.

You can also use on-line hash calculators but for a hundreds MBytes file IMHO that is not a viable option (since you need to upload what you already downloaded).
