Hi, I believe NLB should exactly refer to Microsoft NLB and, if I'm not mistaken, it has not been supported since AOS-CX's day 1 (see below).

Hello Peter, you're correct and I was wrong: the Multicast Static ARP (NLB) Layer 3 feature was available since AOS-CX 10.04.0001 on Aruba 8400, Aruba 8325 and Aruba 8320 and since AOS-CX 10.06.0001 on Aruba 8360...is it probably still not available on Aruba 6400/6300 (even if it's reported as an "Enhancement" also on Aruba 6300/6400 Release Notes for AOS-CX 10.08.0001)?

Call me cynical but what is the big change/addition that warranted doing a new major release barely 4 releases into the 10.07 branch?

The Enhancements table doesn't look more exciting than the average enhancement tables of minor releases, but maybe I'm missing something here....

Hi! I must admit I have the very same question in mind and I agree with you.

Keeping a cool head and looking at the "Enhancement List" (even considering just a subset of those listed as "worthy of attention" with respect to others) I personally can't understand why Aruba released the new ArubaOS-CX 10.08 software branch so early...especially considering, as you correctly pointed out, that the current ArubaOS-CX 10.07 software branch is still very new and with a short past history (only four software releases were published and this happened between May and August 2021!).

One of the major changes in 10.08 is the substructure in the OS allowing at least 6300 series to become PTP Aware and give them multiple PTP version profiles.   This is of enormous use for Broadcasters, Professional Audio, and the AV industry as a whole.   Compatibility with Dante and AES67 which rely on the clock sync from PTPv1 and PTPv2.   Until now none of the CX series has been PTP Aware.   In fact,   we have been forced to buy only the 2930M series to achieve PTP Aware status as a transparent clock.   But now with 10.08,  I believe CX series will be capable of being the more powerful boundary clock comparable to a number of switches from Cisco and NetGear.

I am sure there are lots of other feature improvements.  But this was a massive change in my switch options.   I can now buy CX series, finally.

That's strange considering that Aruba 6400 Switch series is already capable - in Hardware - to support IEEE 1588 PTP (E2E TC and P2P TC modes of operation) [*].

Does it mean that the AOS-CX 10.08 - at least initially - added PTP support to Aruba 6300 switch series only or I've read the ArubaOS-CX 10.08.0001 Release Notes incorrectly?

Edit: [*] Aruba 8360 Switch series too...

David here is what my Aruba Partner sent me when 10.08 first came out ...
The PTP profiles available to 6300 series switches

It is news to us that the 6400 was able to do it.  We went looking last year and the only one in the entire family that listed PTP TC was 2930M.   We went direct to TAC Support and they told us the same thing.

Now the next question .... can either series maintain this PTP profile while stacking is engaged?

Hi John, with regard to "It is news to us that the 6400 was able to do it.  We went looking last year and the only one in the entire family that listed PTP TC was 2930M." please consider that Aruba 6400 (and Aruba 8360) is hardware capable/enabled of/for supporting PTP but, AFAIK, pre AOS-CX 10.08 software versions (and AOS-CX 10.08 too, if I'm not mistaken) didn't support PTP from the software standpoint...to be honest HPE has some Comware 7 operating system based Switch series fully supporting various PTP modes, look at the HPE FlexFabric 5710 (starting with R2702P01 software release, as example) and it seems those series provide a better PTP support if compared to the one offered by the Aruba 2930M but their product positioning is more DC versed (mainly ToR) than the Aruba 2930M switch series (Access/Edge) and also their price point isn't probably comparable with the Aruba 2930M (don't know now with the Aruba 6300F/M)...but if, in the past, you were looking for full PTP support as an essential feature of your deployments then HPE already provided such feature in some switch series of its large portfolio.

    Hi John,

"Now the next question .... can either series maintain this PTP profile while stacking is engaged?"

    ArubaOS-CX 10.8 PTP Support compatibility with VSF/VSX:

    - PTP and VSX: mutually exclusive
    - PTP and VSF: compatible

See the PTP presentation here (now here) as reference (Edit 27-08-2021: the AOS-CX 10.8 Deep Dive presentations were initially published here but they were subsequently moved here).
