    Hi all,

I have an unusual problem with our Aruba 2930.

Some time ago all HP Procurve switches were replaced by the Aruba 2930.

IP telephones are connected to the switches. Now we have the problem that the connection to the telephones "falls asleep" and the telephones cannot be reached. Then after two or more attempts it works. After a while, however, the same problem returns. The only solution to prevent "falling asleep" is to send a permanent ping to the affected telephones. This error does not occur as long as the ping is running. The problem has only existed since the Aruba 2930s were in use. Does anyone have any idea why this error could be?

    Thanks in advance.

Can you see anything in the logging? As pure speculation what may happen is that when the phone enters 'sleep mode' it drops from 1000Mbps to 100Mbs. Power consumption at 100Mbps is lower in general. Then when the device wakes up again it may switch back to 1000Mbps, which may trigger a new spanning-tree timeout or just ethernet speed negotiation. There should be something in the logs if that happens.

If you don't have the experience to look in the logs, it may be good to involve your Aruba partner or Aruba Support if you have an active support contract.
