We are facing an issue with an H3C-branded S5820X-28S switch running Comware Version 5.20, Release 1110P05. The "brand" or "oem" commands are not available in this version:

    <sysname>b?
    backup
    boot-loader
    bootrom

    <sysname>o?
    oap

    <sysname>sys
System View: return to User View with Ctrl+Z.
    [sysname]b?
    bfd
    bgp
    bootrom-update
    bpdu-tunnel
    buffer
    burst-mode

    [sysname]o?
    oam
    ospf
    ospfv3

    [sysname]

I noticed that the filename for the Comware images for H3C-branded devices start with "s", while the ones for HP/HPE-branded devices start with "a". Example:

    5 -rw- 31854592 Oct 08 2000 08:48:37 a5800_5820x-cmw520-r1810p06.bin --> for HP/HPE branded devices
    7 -rw- 27368692 Aug 29 2000 13:26:46 a5800_5820x-cmw520-r1211p01.bin  --> for HP/HPE branded devices
    8 -rw- 21372116 Jun 18 2010 17:56:58 s5800_5820x-cmw520-r1110p05.bin  --> for H3C branded devices

Therefore, H3C-branded devices can only boot from a Comware image whose filename start with "s". I first tried to download an H3C-branded Comware version that has the "brand" or "oem" command available from the HPE Networking software download website, but the only ones available are even older than the one that the device is currently running:

    https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=JC102A

Then I tried to download them from the H3C software download website, but even though I created a personal user for the H3C website, it seems in order to download special privileges for the user are required:

    http://www.h3c.com.hk/Technical_Support___Documents/Software_Download/Switches/H3C_S5800_5820X_Series_Switches/H3C_S5800_5820X_Series_Switches/Default.htm

I contacted H3C and asked them how to get these special privileges for the user, and they referred me back to HPE Networking

Question: For those who where able to download an H3C-branded Comware version that has the "brand" or "oem" command available, how did you do to download it?

P.S: Admin: Moved as a new topic from Trying to upgrade firmware on a H3C/HP A5820-24XG (JC102A) and not having any success

Hi! AFAIK a Comware Switch boots the available bin system file it is instructed to boot...no matter if that file start with an alphabetical letter or not...

What is its actual software status (display version and display boot-loader)?

Comware 5 Release 1110P05 for your H3C S5820X-28S is probably at least 9 Years old so - probably - the brand or oem command isn't available (silly question: have you tried to digit the oem command instead of searching for auto-completion with its first letter o plus Tab?)...definitely you must upgrade it first to a more recent version (see below for JC102A files)...to do so follow Upgrade Software appendix available on relevant Release Notes document related to the software version you're applying.

The HP A-Series Switches Brand Migration Feature Guide published on 2011 reports oem as the command to execute on 5800/5820 series:

    oem.png

Once HP branded you can update to a more recent release (note that JC102A is the HP 5820X-24XG-SFP+ Switch) and relevant downloads are available here, latest released is the R1810P16 (HPE recommended and minimum codes here).

    Hi parnassus,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. This is the output of display version and display boot-loader on this switch:

    <h3c>dis version
    H3C Comware Platform Software
Comware Software, Version 5.20, Release 1211
Copyright (c) 2004-2011 Hangzhou H3C Tech. Co., Ltd. All rights reserved.
    H3C S5820X-28S uptime is 0 week, 2 days, 18 hours, 43 minutes

    H3C S5820X-28S with 2 Processors
    512M bytes SDRAM
    4M bytes Nor Flash Memory
    512M bytes Nand Flash Memory
Config Register points to Nand Flash

    Hardware Version is Ver.B
CPLDA Version is 002, CPLDB Version is 003
    BootRom Version is 212
    [SubSlot 0] 24SFP Plus+4GE Hardware Version is Ver.B

    <h3c>dis boot-loader
    Slot 1
The current boot app is: flash:/s5800_5820x-cmw520-r1211.bin
The main boot app is: flash:/s5800_5820x-cmw520-r1211.bin
The backup boot app is: flash:/s5800_5820x-cmw520-r1206.bin

Just to be sure, we tried to configure the oem command, but it seems it is not available on this Comware version:

    <h3c>oem hp
    ^
% Unrecognized command found at '^' position.

    <h3c>sys
System View: return to User View with Ctrl+Z.
    [h3c]oem hp
    ^
% Unrecognized command found at '^' position.

    Hello Parnassus,

Pardon me but my question is different from the original question on this thread.
    My questions are as follows:
    1. I have not been able to download HP Comware v7 and was wondering if it is available for public download.
    2. Also, I have learnt that there is not a lot of difference between Comware 5 and 7 but I have not come across
the command reference guide and would like to know, are the commands exactly the same?
    3. In comware 5, to enable stack onw would run the "irf-port-configuration active" command, is the stack
configuration process the same in comware 7?

    Thank you.
