AP-325 Missing OS Image

I bought a couple of refurbished AP-325 access points and they are missing the OS image on both partitions.

    apboot> osinfo
Partition 0 does not contain a valid OS image

Partition 1 does not contain a valid OS image
    apboot>

I'm looking to connect them to a cluster of 7210 controllers that are running 8.6.0.15.

Is there a certain image (Non IAP) I need to download from ASP?

You should be able to install the AP software on the ASP portal. It will come up in IAP mode if it cant detect/discover a controller, but if it does it will download its image from the controller and upgrade.

I installed the ArubaInstant_Hercules_8.6.0.15_81969 image on the AP by using the setenv serverip command and mounted it to partition 0 with the setenv os_partition 0 command.

The VLAN does have option 43 and 60 set and the AP did show up on the MM dashboard. But, it shows it as down.

I also noticed while consoled into the AP I am at the User: prompt.

Try to see if it lets you log in with username admin, and password as the serial number of the AP. If so it booted up to instant mode. You can navigate to maintenance and convert it to a controller based AP and give it the IP of one of your controllers (Not the MM. APs can not terminate on an MM).

    See if this helps.

It allows me to log into the console screen with the serial number being the password.

When I go to log into the Web Interface it takes about 10 minutes for it to accept the serial number as the password. It gives me the message 'Login failed. Please re-enter Username & Password.' when I try it prior to the 10 minutes.

As soon as I change the default password the AP will reboot and not give me a chance to point it towards the MC.

I consoled into the AP and was able to use the new password I set before the AP rebooted itself. And I type the command convert-aos-ap CAP <controller-IP>. And that seemed to have resolved the issue.

    Thank you

You can easily skip the step of uploading Aruba Instant image if you will deploy AP as a CAP.

Go into boot prompt and check for boot filename in environment variable bootfile
    apboot> printenv
    ....
    bootfile=xxxxx.ari
    ...
    apboot>

Then setup serverip to the MD ip address. Do not put here a MM ip address. Use upgrade os command to download the new image from controller and boot AP.
    apboot> setenv serverip <MD ip address>
    apboot> upgrade os 0 xxxxx.ari
    apboot> boot
