I have been working with TAC for over 3 weeks to find a solution to an issue I am having with 2x RAP-303H both with Novatel USB modems.  The issue seems to revolve around the AP Provisioning Profile that I believe is incorrect. and in which I am looking for a solution.

We were previously running ArubaOS 6.x on our controllers.

The USB device type was set to "ether"
The USB Device ID was set to "0x1410b001"

When we upgraded the controllers to ArubaOS 8.5, these RAPs with these Novatel modem stopped working.

When I do a "show cellular status" from the console of the RAP, I see the following for the U620L

    USB Modem Information
    ---------------------
    Parameter Value
    --------- -----
    Manufacturer Linux
    Product xHCI Host Controller
    Serial Number xhci-hcd.0.auto
    Driver hub
    Vendor ID 1d6b
    Product ID 0003
    Manufacturer Novatel
    Product MiFi USB620L
    Serial Number 0123456789ABCDEF
    Driver
    Vendor ID 1410
    Product ID 9020
    plugin counter :0
    plugout counter :0
    cellular history log not available

When I do the same for the U720L I see the following.

    USB Modem Information
    ---------------------
    Parameter Value
    --------- -----
    Manufacturer Linux
    Product xHCI Host Controller
    Serial Number xhci-hcd.0.auto
    Driver hub
    Vendor ID 1d6b
    Product ID 0003
    Manufacturer Novatel
    Product MiFi USB730L
    Serial Number 0123456789ABCDEF
    Driver
    Vendor ID 1410
    Product ID 9030
    plugin counter :0
    plugout counter :0
    cellular history log not available

Neither of these devices have a Product ID of "b001" as previously noted in the USB Device ID configuration.

    My questions are these.

Is there a wildcard setting that will allow any Novatel USB modem to be provisioned.  For example, if the USB Device ID is set to something like 0x1410****

If there is no wildcard, do I need to configure different profiles for each USB modem?  For example.
    RAP-U620L profile will contain 0x14109020
    RAP-U730L provile will contain 0x14109030

I have had users down for almost 4 weeks and TAC is dragging their feet on getting me a solution.

After a few weeks working with Aruba TAC, I was able to find a solution.  Below are some high level instructions for how I came to a solution.

Both the U620L and U730L have different Product IDs.

On the controller, I created to 2 AP Groups.  1 for the RAPs running the U620L and 1 for RAPs running the U730L.
I created 2 new AP Provisioning Profiles where each referenced the appropriate USB ID.  As noted in my original post those were these.
    RAP-U620L profile will contain 0x14109020
    RAP-U730L profile will contain 0x14109030
Both of these profiles have the USB Device type set to option-novatel-u620.

Since these RAPs connect to Activate first, I had to create 2 new Folders.  The folders have provisioning configured to point the RAPs to the appropriate AP Group on the controller.

Since we authenticate the RAPs using ClearPass, I had to create new Services in ClearPass that would look for the RAP coming from Activate and in a specific Device Folder.
