Dashboard Info - Wired Clients, WAN Info & Client Details

  • 1.  Dashboard Info - Wired Clients, WAN Info & Client Details

    Posted 22 days ago

I'm new to AOS but have been learning a lot in the past week since I got my 7010 for my home lab with some APs. It is running the latest 8.7.1.1 AOS.

    A few questions about AOS/Dashboard:

    1. I'm finding that the Wired clients are not showing up on the dashboard. What does it take to get a wired client to show up?

    2. The WAN/uplink section on the Dashboard is not showing. Does it require specific configurations?

    3. The details about each Client (only showing Wireless currently) is not displaying all the info I see when I run a "show user" in the CLI. Particulary, the host name is not showing and it lists the IP address. Is there a way to show more info?

    4. Is there a way to narrow down what traffic is coming from a specific client and see what may being denied so I can adjust the Rules & Policies to correct the settings?

Finally, I've enabled AirGroup to use services that rely on mDNS but it doesn't show my HomeKit device as being accessible. Any tips on how to get that to work or what to check for troubleshooting?

    Thanks!

    1. Wired clients will show up if they are 'untrusted' only. So make sure they are connected to an untrusted port.

    2. Not fully sure, but this may show up for branch gateway deployments only.

    3. Not that I'm aware. Maybe others know.

    4. With the CLI command 'show datapath sessions' on the controller you can see what traffic is flowing through the controller as well what traffic is blocked.

Did you find the AirGroup Deployment guide about your last point?

    Thanks fir the info.

is there better documentation on the trusted vs untrusted ports? I'm trying to figure out when to use the different types of ports and the impact.

I'll give the CLI command a try.

    thanks again for the tips!

That is part of the documentation and also the official training. In a summary, a trusted port is just like a switch/router port. When a port/VLAN is untrusted, clients coming in as subject to authentication and will get the initial role first, then go through authentication/role mapping if configured and are added to the user table. Only users in the user table have visibility and will show up in the user table and dashboards.
