Wireless Access

Hi,
our customer have problem with the Android barcode reader, the used app is randomly crashing.
He is starting to affirm that the cause of this problem could be a long latency.
So he did some tests, connecting two devices under the same AP, a microsoft notebook and an Android barcode reader and arrived to this results:
- Microsoft notebook has a latency of 3-4 ms;
- Android barcode reader has a latency of 100-140 ms.

Both the client are connected at 5GHz., at the same distance from the AP.

How could be explained this difference in the latency?

How is the customer performing this test?  The customer should ping from the wired network to wireless clients to test response.

Does that wlan have broadcast filtering enabled?

The customer is pinging the wireless devices from a wired windows PC in the same vlan.
The broadcast filtering is set as ARP, but he tried also to disable it, without any significative change.

ARP is the correct setting.  Different clients have different RF characteristics.  A smaller battery-powered client could sleep more often to provide better battery life.  100ms is not bad, unless it is disrupting the application.  You should do a constant ping to see if the handheld scanner drops too many pings in a row.  I have seen where just scanning will make a device drop a ping.  In that case, you should contact the device manufacturer to see if any optimizations can be made.
