    Posted Nov 12, 2020 05:21 AM
    Hi there,

I got this AP so I could extend the WiFi in my house. I have followed many articles and YouTube videos about how to set it up, but I can't make it work. The WiFi of this AP is not running, so I can't connect to it via WiFi, and I also cannot access it directly via it's IP. Moreover, the AP keeps resetting.

I set its IP to 192.168.1.11, both gateway and master IP to 192.168.1.1. I don't know whether that is correct, or should I set something else?

This is the outcome from PuTTY, thanks in advance for any help:

That looks like an access point that requires a separate hardware controller.  It will not be able to work by itself, as a result.

You would need the IAP-215 model which does not require a hardware controller.

The sticker on the back of the AP should say the model number.

Thank you very much for your answer, cjoseph! The sticker on the back says APIN0215.

That is the regulatory model, which both access points share.  You should either see an AP-215 or an IAP-215.

I attached a photo of the sticker on the back of the AP. Nevertheless, the sticker on the original box says "MODEL: APIN0215, DESC: OAW-AP215 ACCESS POINT".

Does the mac address/serial on the box match the mac address and serial on the access point?  If it does, this is an AP215, which requires a separate hardware controller.

You can try the "reset button" procedure in the document here:  https://support.arubanetworks.com/Documentation/tabid/77/DMXModule/512/Command/Core_Download/Default.aspx?EntryId=29184    If the console output after that procedure still ends with "Welcome to Access Point", you have an AP215, which requires a separate hardware controller.

Yes, both serial number and MAC address on the box match the ones on the AP.

I did a factory reset couple of times and every time it would reset itself after not being able to find the IP addresses (that's why I assigned static IPs).

What separate hardware controller do I need for this AP? Are we talking about these ones?

    Thanks

Yes, those are the controllers I am talking about, so it does not fit your home use case.

An AP that operates by itself would be specifically an IAP-XXX or IAP-215 in your case.

An IAP cannot serve as a hardware controller to an AP, unfortunately.
