Got a couple of RAPs - one of the support guys needs to work remotely and build laptops. It will be slow I know but just wandered if it could be done?
Normally on a switch; you just add a helper address to the VLAN the PXE port is on ... how would this work on a RAP physical port?
If you have the RAPs running on a controller:
First make sure you have a VLAN available at your controller that would work as expected. So if you plug in a laptop locally near the controller in the same VLAN, you can PXE boot it and (re)image.
Then, create a bridged wired AP profile with the same VLAN and apply that in the AP Group to your Remote AP interface(s) that you want to have that VLAN accessible on. If you don't want to do any authentication, make the wired AP profile 'trusted', otherwise configure the required AAA and user-roles.
The wired port on the RAP will act like it is plugged in the same VLAN as the controller is. Leave all DHCP/routing/DNS to the existing infrastructure and just L2 extend the VLAN to remote.
That’s great - thanks for this
