Has this ever worked?  We probably need logs from the controller side to even guess what is happening here.

    Hi,

I'm working at IT Department of a university. We are struggling with a similar difficulty.

For a while our users who uses Windows operating system on their PC's or laptops couldn't establish a stable VPN connection. There is no problem with other operating systems.

When a Windows user establishes a VPN connection and doesn't touch the computer, the connection breaks down in 2 or 3 minutes. Not the same time. It varies.

If the user surfs the web when the connection established or ping anywhere continiously, there is no problem with the VPN connection. When the user stops surfing or sending imcp packets, VPN connection breaks down in a 2 or 3 minutes.

At the Via connection log errors lines up with the same order:
    1. Retrieving configuration from server ... Failed.
    2. Upgrade status ... Interrupted.
    3. Attempt to send heartbeats to the controller failed.
After sending heartbeat error connection suddenly breaks down. You can find the Connection Log screen shot in the attachment.

I checked the Controller at the same time and it seems everything is normal here. There isn't any logs related with this problem.

We had been using ArubaOS 6.4.2.4 version till last month. We upgraded our controller to 6.4.2.6 version but the problem is still continuing. And we worked with different versions of Via application.

And this is the anacui.txt logs in Windows:

    aekmekci,

If this is a crucial issue, please open a case with TAC in parallel so that they can get all of the relevent logs to push you towards a solution.

I am having a similar problem.  I can't get anywhere with my IT folks at my company or my internet service provider.  IT reports that the issue is not on their end.  They say it is the ISP.  The ISP says that all of my connections are excellent.  There are no issues on their end.  They say it has to be the VPN.  I am not even remotely close to being tech savvy, so I do not understand any of this stuff.  I just know that I can't work and I am at my wits end.  My VPN connections drops out on me every few minutes - every time that I see the "attempt to send heartbeats to controller failed."  It then immediately reconnects.  I see the same log as shown in the original post.  If anyone can offer me a solution and break it down into dummy terms, that would be great!  I am a desperate woman here!  Ha!

Have you tried to connect using the iphone app or android app to eliminate an OS issue?

Right, but you should try with the VIA mobile app so that you can figure out if it is your connectivity or your laptop that is the problem..

I downloaded the Aruba app on my phone and connected to VPN.  It didn't disconnect.  The cell phone was connected to the same wifi connection as my laptop, so I don't think the issue is connection.

You should open a tac case in parallel to this post, so that they can get debugging client info from your laptop to understand what could be happening.

Forgive my ignorance, but TAC case?  You mean log the issue with the IT folks at my employer?

Yes, because they could be either working on the issue or have more information about why it is not working properly.

Some of this sounds uncannily like the problem I'm having with Windows client. VIA is solid with Mac and mobile devices, but Windows client disconnects with "attempt to send heartbeats to the controller failed" every few minutes, prompting a new MFA authentication and dropping the VPN tunnel. VIA client version 3.2.1.101689 with 7210 controller on ArubaOS 6.5.3.2. Any ideas? Should I bite the bullet and move to AOS8 for VIA? Is that more stable for Windows?

Did it ever work with Windows?

Also happy Halloween for resurrecting a thread that has been dead for 3 years...
