Square brackets in device configuration.

We have the following in our device configuration:

    snmp-server contact IT Services (0161 275 6001) [U][C]

This is the literal text as it's supposed to be. Unfortunately this makes Airwave a little unhappy.

    If the template contains:

    snmp-server contact %contact%

and the device management contains "IT Services (0161 275 6001) [U][C]" for the Contact then something goes wrong. I assume that the [] are being interpreted as something. I can't find in the documentation what [] are supposed to do though. I've tried every escape code I can think of but I can't get Airwave to interpret the above string correctly literally.

    Generally we finish up with:

    Actual snmp-server contact IT Services (0161 275 6001) [U][C]
    Desired snmp-server contact IT Services (0161 275 6001)C]

Any suggestions on what [] does or how to make the [] be interpretted literally?

    Thanks,

Square brackets are special characters in AirWave templates.

This is from the side bar next to a device config template:

    ----------------

    <ignore_and_do_not_push></ignore_and_do_not_push>, [],

    <push_and_exclude></push_and_exclude> and ()

These tags can be used to achieve a good configuration. Please refer to the User Guide for more information.

Try substituting the square brackets out for another symbol.

Thanks but that's not an option. This syntax is used across some 3000 devices and many scripts.

Is there no way of escaping the characters?

I was trying a few things out, but didn't hit the magic formula yet.  I'd like to put some additional testing in this, what device type/model is this config on?  Knowing the end device will help ensure that we're testing on a similar device.  I just briefly tried on an Aruba 7240 switch.

I don't have any Cisco IOS devices currently available to test with, but was able to reproduce using a Cisco Switch.  The behavior has been filed into our bug tracking system as DE14378.  Whoever tests the bug will update this thread upon completion.

Quick update: I'm going to have support open a case for you so that you get active updates beyond this forum thread and so they can track this to completion.  They will get in contact with you to get some additional information about severity of the issue.  Though for now, you'll have to ignore the mismatch until the defect gets fixed.
