Wondering if someone can shed some light on the differences between these two products. We'd like to gain more control of our network and disconnect users that are downloading illegal software (for example). If you can pick just one of these products let's say...wich one would it be?

ClearPass is a authentication, policy/authorization solution whereas
AirWave is a monitoring and configuration product.

To be able to disconnect users and assign various roles (such as a captive
portal screen when someone downloads something illegal), ClearPass is what
you are looking for.
