Controllerless Networks

Hi,
We have previously used IAP-315-RW and successfully deployed via Aruba activate and central many sites.  All we have configured is local DHCP settings and VLAN with native VLAN in the switch port being the management VLAN that has access to the Internet and it's all worked fine.

We have now moved to the AP-515-RW and were told it's now unified part for either controller based or instant.  The belief is it tries to look for a controller and if not falls back to instant and proceeds the same as an iap315.

we've applied the same config on switch ports, installer plugged in out the box, all configured on activate and portal but the APs don't seem to start the initiation process, we see dhcp request and local router provides a IP but then nothing, the APs then send another dhcp request , can never ping locally so it appears it's not configuring itself to then start the external connection to activate.
so most like it's awaiting an option 43 with controller IP which we don't have!

is there anything else that's needs to be configured differently for a ap515 versus a IAP 315?
Obviously as ZTP I would hope nothing needs to be configured on the AP!

The 315s we use are at 8.6.0.4, the new 515s are whatever the factory default is which on activate seems to show 8.4,0.0 however just to reconfirm we aren't mixing the two types.  

So this is a brand new site with just the out the box 515s only.   ​
