    Hi,

Can you power an Aruba RAP155 using PoE rather than DC power adapter? Asking for a friend.

    Cheers!

    Hi James,

Reading the datasheet i think it's not possible.

    https://www.arubanetworks.com/assets/ds/DS_RAP-155.pdf

DC power source (adapter ships with unit, AC power cord
    ordered separately)
    - RAP-155: 12 Vdc from external AC-to-DC power adapter
    - RAP-155P: 54 Vdc from external AC-to-DC power adapter
    • Maximum power consumption:
    - Without USB device connected: 15.5 watts
    - With USB device: 18 watts
    - When sourcing PoE power (RAP-155P only), total power
consumption may increase by up to 34 watts
    • PoE power sourcing capabilities (RAP-155P only):
    - 802.3af or 802.3at power sourcing support (PSE)
provided on two local Ethernet ports (ENET1, 2)
    - Device capable of supplying 1x full 802.3at power or 2x
    full 802.3af power

The RAP155 indeed cannot be powered over PoE, the 155P can provide power. As you can see, the power consumption was high for standard PoE, which was more the standard at that time.

The RAP-108/109 was one of the first RAPs that could be powered over PoE. After that, the 205H/R and similar hybrid hospitality/RAP APs can be powered over PoE.
