I have some (J9574A) HPE 3800-48G-PoE+-4SFP+ switches. I have received some (J9586A) HPE 3800-48G-4XG switches. Because the (J9586A) has the XG ports, I am not able to connect the switch back to my L3 stack (J9586A). There is no documentation but does anyone know if I use a HPE JL563A 10gbase-t Sfp+ Rj45 in the SFP+ port of the (J9586A) it would work and connect back at 10gig?

I do know that the HPE JL563A 10gbase-t Sfp+ Rj45 will work in older HPE H3C 5500 gear.

Hello Adam, not exactly sure what you want to achieve but the HP/Aruba 3800 Switch Series doesn't support the JL563A Aruba 10GBASE-T SFP+ RJ45 Transceiver, as far as I know the various HP/Aruba 3800 Switch Series's QuickSpecs editions report only SFP+ LC Transceivers (so optical) as supported and no SFP+ RJ45 10GBASE-T Transceivers (so copper), the only exception seems to be the SFP RJ45 1GBASE-T which will not fit your design goal (I guess "connect the switch back to my L3 stack" probably against 10GBASE-T copper XG ports available on J9586A Aruba 3800-48G-4XG Stack's members).

Reference: Aruba 3800 Switch Series QuickSpecs (07-11-2016 24th Edition)
