  • 1.  2930F without a firmware image?

    Posted Feb 28, 2022 06:13 AM
    Hi All,

I've recently received and configured a large batch of 2930Fs without any issue. One of the switches, although configured and successfully connected to our campus network does not have a firmware image:

    Image Size (bytes) Date Version
    ----------------- ------------ -------- --------------
Primary Image : No image loaded
Secondary Image : No image loaded

    Boot ROM Version
    ----------------
Primary Boot ROM Version : WC.16.01.0008
Secondary Boot ROM Version : WC.16.01.0008

    Default Boot Image : Primary
    Default Boot ROM : Primary

I've tried to TFTP a current firmware version on to it but to no avail. Has this switch failed in some way or is there a workaround to get an image on to the switch?

    Regards,

    Simon

Have you tried uploading the firmware via XMODEM?

Hello Simon, check this Aruba eSupport article. We've been hit by that issue on a Aruba 2540 but we were able accept the risk of rebooting the switch as a final troubleshooting attempt (nor we were able to run into a DC to see what-happen-if-reboot-goes-wrong) and thus Aruba agreed to replace the entire Switch in advance. We then discovered, once the Aruba 2540 was pulled off, that rebooting it caused the Images to appear again as there were no "real" issue.

We weren't able to download (flash) any area (Primary or Secondary) and both areas reported "No image loaded", instead the show version showed the correct AOS-Switch loaded. Worth to say the upload of the Switch was quit high (about 500 days).

    Hi Davide,

Many thanks for the help and link to the support article.

The switch was included in a bulk update yesterday and had hung when trying to get a new firmware version. I gave the switch a proper reboot (power out etc) and it's now back in operation. I've logged on to the switch and it's now reporting that it does actually have firmware in both primary and secondary flashes. I've also successfully TFTP'd to the switch and have upgraded the firmware to WC.16.11.0003.

    Switch now running as normal!

    Regards,

    Simon
