    Posted Apr 21, 2014 12:14 AM

Hi, Im configuring a 3COM 5500G EI switch as a core, after I enable it stp, it keep prompting this message:

    %Jan 15 05:23:08:878 2005 5500G-EI MSTP/3/BPDUFRMTINCMPLNC:- 1 -Instance0's INCOMPLIANCE-Protection port GigabitEthernet1/0/26 receive incompliant message!

port 1/0/26 is connected to HP2530G 8ports access switch which stp are also enabled.

Is this cause by incompatible 802.1D standard between these 2 switches? If yes, how should I solve this issues?

    Regards

    Michael

Looks like incomplete versions of STP between your devices... fix that and you wont see the message any longer.

    HI Michael_W,

correct, this is an incompatibility between the two switch, probably the root has a different STP/MSTP (more recent).

Set it to legacy mode, this is from manual of our HP switch:

Setting spanning tree to operate in 802. ID legacy mode

    Syntax:

    [no] spanning-tree legacy-mode

Forces spanning tree to operate in legacy (802.1D) mode.

    Default: MSTP-operation.

The no form of this command returns the switch to the default 802.1s native mode (MSTP-operation)

Setting spanning tree to operate with 802. 1D legacy path cost values

    Syntax:
    spanning-tree legacy-path-cost

Forces spanning tree to operate with legacy (802.1D) path cost values.

    Default: 802.1t.

The no form of the command returns the switch to the default 802.1t (not legacy) path cost values.
