  • 1.  6200 upgrade path from 10.10.1040 to 10.14.1000

    Posted Sep 18, 2024 12:36 PM

    Greetings,

Very much a newbie here, so apologies in advance.

I have a fleet of approx 60 switches, currently running PL.10.10.1040 (or close to that variant) and need to go to 10.14.1000 to resolve a known issue.

I have an outstanding issue re using Central to perform the upgrade, but I'm wanting to know if there are any intermediate upgrades that need to be done, seeing as I ama going from major version 10.10.xx to 10.14.xx (should I need to do it manually).

    Appreciate your assistance.

Hi, since you are on AOS-CX 10.10 (an LSR) and you want to move to AOS-CX 10.14 (an SSR) - thus in between there are AOS-CX 10.11, 10.12 and 10.13 Major Releases - and considering that the desired destination version is (a) a SSR (and not the AOS-CX 10.13 which is the newer LSR compared to the older AOS-CX 10.10) and that (b) the AOS-CX 10.14 is far more than two Major Releases from the source - a normal upgrade path is 10.(n) to 10.(n+2) admits at best a jump, example, from 10.10 (LSR) to 10.12 (SSR) skipping the intermediate 10.11 (SSR) not being able to reach directly the 10.14 (SSR) - that is you want to jump from 10.10 to 10.14...then - in any case - you are forced to upgrade your AOS-CX to an interim Major Release meeting the above n+2 rule or jumping between LSRs only.

    Examples:

    Do:

10.10 (LSR) -> 10.11 (SSR) and 10.12 (SSR) are both skipped due to upgrading between LSRs -> 10.13 (LSR) -> 10.14 (SSR) - note: a single jump from two consecutive LSRs, say from older LSR to newer LSR, is indeed admitted as written above.

    Or do:

10.10 (LSR) -> 10.11 (SSR) is skipped due to the n+2 rule -> 10.12 (SSR) -> 10.13 (LSR) is skipped due to the n+2 rule -> 10.14 (SSR).

Forgot to write that, personally, of the two examples I tend to prefer the first one: upgrade from LSR to LSR (plus the final upgrade from LSR to SSR).

You should check the release notes for the version you plan to move to and see if there are any required intermediate steps listed there. I don't see any for 10.14, so you probably can upgrade directly, but read the release notes for possible other things that you need to be aware of.

Also Central should prevent you from doing incompatible upgrades.

Hi Herman! probably you're totally right: checking the latest ArubaOS-CX 10.14.1010 Release Notes I wasn't able to find any particular restriction about the starting AOS-CX minimun level in order to reach any other newer AOS-CX level (Major Release, such as the 10.14) .

I noticed only this statement: "Do not upgrade to AOS-CX 10.14 using REST API or WebUI unless your switch is running AOS-CX 10.09.1060, AOS-CX 10.10.1020 or later versions of these releases." so, given that the starting AOS-CX is a 10.10.1040 buid, the OS should be free to upgrade to 10.14 via WebUI, REST API or CLI.

P.S. for the OP, the latest ArubaOS-CX builds, released few days ago (19-09-2024), are:

    • 10.10.1140 LSR
    • 10.13.1050 LSR
    • 10.14.1010 SSR <-

    Cheers!
