  • 1.  7005 controller with 8.6 - how to restore text file config?

    Posted Mar 16, 2022 12:01 PM
    Folks,

I've got a 7005 controller running as a standalone master, with version 8.6.0.11. I have a flash backup that doesn't look right. But I have a text file backup of the full controller config.

I can't find a way to reboot with the text file - which I copied to the flash. It's a big config, so I don't really want to copy and paste to the current config and cross my fingers.

I sort of want to do a replace-config-reboot but I can't get it to work.

What I want is something like "copy flash: good-config-to-restore startup-config (of course, this doesn't work).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Ambi

How did you obtain the config in the first place.  If it was the output of "show running" you cannot paste it back in.  There should be an option to backup config.  restore flash will transport you back in time to when you took the flashbackup.  There are alot of files in there that won't look right, but work.

I got it from Diagnostics > Tech Support -> Copy Files -> Running/Startup Config -> Destination -> Copy to local drive.

You say there's no way to recover given the config exists? Then what good is it? Why would Aruba provide a way to back something up that doesn't do me any good? That's like write-only memory. Useless.

I've got to go through every SSID, every network setting, every firewall rule, etc. and redo it manually?

Those Cisco Merakis are looking better all the time!

Isn't there a way to boot using the backed-up text config? I copied the config to default.cfg and rebooted, and it seemed to use that, and I was in the GUI for a minute, then it stopped pinging, and reverted the the current config not the "default" cfg.

That is the running config, but you can't use it for restoration.  Consider it as just a reference.
The correct way to do it is Maintenance --> Configuration Management --> Backup.  Select configuration.  It will generate a file called configbackup.tar.gz.  That is what you need to restore the config.
