    Dear All,

We are currently in the process of upgrading our Aruba AP-93 and AP-105 Access Points (in total 450 units) - connected to a single 7210 controller (ArubaOS v 6.2.0.0)

We would like to know if it's possible to install AP-505 (ArubaOS v8.6.0.0) on the existing controller as it's currently running on v 6.2.0.0. We don't want to risk upgrading the old controller as the old AP-93s and AP-105 will stop working. This upgrade will be done in batches of 50 APs being replaced at one time.

Secondly, will we need to buy new licenses for the new APs or we can continue to use the existing license packs?

Secondly, is there a failover license available if we decide to add one more 7210 controller to act a failover?

    Thanking you all in advance!

    Hi Aljimitech,

The Aruba AP-93 is end-of-support since November 2019 and the AP-105 since August 2020. When upgrading the controller from 6.x to 8.x you will loose all configuration and its factory default, you will need to re-configure your controller manually. Your controller is still supported and can run the latest 8.10.x.x code.

The AP-93 is not supported in any 8.x code far as i known.

The AP-105 can run in Aruba 8.6.x.x code but not in 8.7.x.x or later

The AP-505 are supported from 8.6.x.x code

So you can't run AP-93 and AP-505 on the same controller. AP-105 and AP-505 only with 8.6.x.x.

Because the AP-93 and AP-105 are Prehistoric devices it's time to replace this for modern hardware. If you say you have 450 access points why you don't use controller redundancy? Maybe its time to buy a secondary controller and a Mobility Conductor for Central Management and L2 Cluster redudancy. This even give you possible migration scenario's.

Another option is to take a look in Aruba Central where you environment maybe can managed controller-less from the cloud, all depending on your needs and if you need tunneled or bridged APs for example.

My advise is to contact your local Aruba Partner to discuse your requirements and possible migration steps.
