  • 1.  Adding AP 505/515 to Cluster 305 in Cloud Central

    Posted Dec 29, 2021 08:50 PM
My company just purchased couple of AP 505 and 515's that are going to be added in a cluster containing AP 305's. I know it's not possible with the 205's cause the firmware only run to 6.5.4.20 instead of 8.0.6.14 like the 305's. Can I add the 5 series to the 3 series my first question to be managed in cloud central? Secondly, what is the least version the 505 or 515 need to have to be in the same clusters with the 305's and in central? Once I connect the 5 series to the Lan for the first time, what is the default credentials login? Lastly what is the name of the firmware I would need, Gemini, taurus?
    Thank you,

The AP-505 requires 8.6 or up (check in the specification page)
The AP-515 requires 8.4 or up (check in the specification page)
The AP-305 has no announced last release (check in end of support page)

That means that you can build a cluster of 305/505/515 when running 8.6 through 8.9 at the moment.

If you add the APs to Central, and add a subscription, you can upgrade them from Central. If you need local management, just select the AP type in ASP to get the correct firmware (like Gemini/Draco/Ursa).

    Hi Herman,
thank you so much for the info. It looks like the new gears have been shipped with a firmware that will work already in Central, therefore I won't need to update the firmware locally. When I go to the asp page for software downloads, I also get confused what category to select Aruba 500 campus series or Aruba 510 Campus series.
    AP- 505 SW.8.7.1.3
    AP- 515 SW.8.6.02
    Thank you in advance.

If you download the firmware from ASP, you will need to find a common version across AP305/505/515 and download each of them. Not sure why you get 8.6.0.2, my search gives 8.6.0.15.

With Central, it's better to manage your firmware from there.

    Thank you so much Hernan,
the 8.6.0.2 version is the default received from Aruba, meaning it's printed on the box. I'll upload the version you found.
