  • 1.  Airgroup - Airplay issues

We're having some issues with Airgroup - Airplay. Airgroup enabled devices are not discovering one another:

iPhone/iPad unable to discover Apple TV via Airplay. This happens when on the same SSID and when each device is connected to a different Airgroup enabled SSID.

All VLANs are included in open-flow profile, services i.e. default-airplay is included in the Airgroup service and all of the relevant VLANs are disallowed (users and servers) within the Airgroup profile.

This has been working before - only discovered recently, as all staff are working from home. Upgraded to 8.7.1.7 in December.

    AirGroupService Table

    ---------------------

Service             status            service ID                                        Auto-Associate  Description

    -------             ------   ----------                                        --------------  -----------

    default-airplay     Enabled   _airplay._tcp                                                     AirPlay

                                                  _appletv-v2._tcp

                                                  _raop._tcp

Using command: 'show airgroup block-queries'  there are thousands of '._sub._apple-mobdev2._tcp' entries. Could this be relevant to the airplay issues? If so, should '._sub._apple-mobdev2._tcp' be added as part of the default-airplay service? Or is there anything else which needs adding?

    AirGroup dropped Query IDs

    --------------------------

    Service ID                                 #query-hits  Thread Num

    ----------                                 -----------  ----------

    92c007f3._sub._apple-mobdev2._tcp          6            1

    95cd0839._sub._apple-mobdev2._tcp          8            1

    924c07e1._sub._apple-mobdev2._tcp          65           1

    98f40845._sub._apple-mobdev2._tcp          2            1

    9174081d._sub._apple-mobdev2._tcp          8            1

All user devices are appearing in the airgroup user table with the correct MACs and usernames.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Adam

Curious if you have clustered controllers? We upgraded from a standalone controller on 8.7.1.4 to a clustered pair on the same version, and changed the AirGroup config to Centralized. What we see is intermittent advertisements - a client device will see AirGroup servers for a time, then won't. We have ClearPass in play and limiting advertisements to AP groups, e.g. you can only see a device if you are in the same building/area so you are in the same AP group. We are just starting to troubleshoot the issue, have not engaged TAC yet. To our knowledge, this worked fine on the standalone controller before the change to a cluster.

Yes, we have a primary cluster x10 controllers and a Mobility Conductor running 8.7.1.7.

Worked previously with the exact same set up. Not sure exactly when it stopped working. Upgraded 3-4 times since the service was originally announced. Only recently noticed as we had a support ticket, which prompted me to do further testing in our office.

No Airgroup settings have been touched since it was originally configured.

Thanks for your info - do you have AirGroup config as Centralized in your Conductor setup, and I assume also using ClearPass to manage? We are doing some additional testing but will likely end up opening a TAC case. I'll post here with follow up.

    Yes, centralised.

We have an mPSK SSID which was created on ClearPass, where users can register their 'headless' devices such as Apple TVs, Amazon Echos etc. Airgroup is enabled on this SSID.

There is also a separate Airgroup service enabled on ClearPass.

What version of Aruba OS was it working on prior to upgrading to 8.7.1.7?

Difficult to be accurate but I would say 8.7.1.5
