    Hi,

We have some airwave topology display issue :

    1. if the airwave folder contain only one switch, and we filter the airwave topology by this folder, none of the switch display in topology
    2. we use "Locate Device" and type switchname to search it, sometimes cannot found the switch in topology
    3. some of the switch not showed in topology

Could you please give us advice to troubleshoot these issue?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Jackson.

Are you are using latest 8.3.0.3 version?

Topology is generated mostly from LLDP, CDP and other available data from infrastructure.

If you are on the latest version, then TAC case is a way to go. If not, then first try to upgrade and see, if the issue is still there.

    Hi,

The Airwave version is 8.3.0.3. Instead to raise TAC case, is there anything we can check?

    Hi Jackson.

If LLDP/CDP/SNMP info is good, then the problem is in AirWave visualisation.

I tested in 8.3.0.2 and 8.3.0.3. In 8.3.0.2 everything seems to work as excpected. I can see switches and APs in all folders even if I have only one switch in the folder. On 8.3.0.3 I can't see APs at all and can't see switch if only one switch is in the folder like you.

So it's a TAC time unfortunatelly. Looks like regression on AirWave side at 8.3.0.3 version.

Do you by any chance use snmpv3? There is defect DE36661 in the release notes.

    Hi Gorazd,

We used snmpv2, not snmpv3. It seems new defect in 8.3.0.3. Many thanks for your valuable information.

So I just need to wait a little for switch to show in the topology view in a new folder. Update process take some time. But then after a while it disappeared again when using a filter :-(

Currently I'm waiting for TAC to analyze the issue.

    Hi,

Could you please give us some advise once TAC replied?

So a short update. In the topology view I can see APs that are connected to switches with LLDP enabled. So this problem is sorted. I still have a problem with folders where only one switch is assigned. Can see the switch when no filters are applied but it is not shown when I apply filter for this folder.

I believe it is due to having only one device in Folder, where it cannot map a topology (or network diagram). If there's another switch or AP connecting to the device in the Folder. It should show topology view of 2 devices for the folder.

    Hi Gowri.

This works as expected in 8.3.0.2 but not in 8.3.0.3. For me this looks like regression. I have 8.3.0.2 AirWave where I can clearly see only one switch in folder when I apply filter.

    Hi Gorazd,

Please open a TAC ticket so that they can open a bug for a fix.

    Hi.

    Update on this issue.

For device to shown in topology map when a folder filter is applied, you need to select a folder containing uplink device and then folder containing device you are interested on. Without uplink device topology map will not show anything. This is expected behavior.

    For example:

a core switch is in folder A and edge switch is in folder B. LLDP info show uplinks between these two switches.

Now in topologa map you filter only on folder B. As there is no uplink device, nothing will be shown. If you also select a folder A, then switch in folder B will be shown.

Variant to this example is if you have a switch and APs connected to this switch in folder C and uplink core device in folder A. When you filter only folder C,  you will see switch in folder C as it has downlinks to APs in the same folder.

Unfortunately AirWave User guide in chapter Topology does not mention this requirement at all. It would be nice to have at least a note in documentation about this requirement/behavior.

In conclusion AirWave topology map works as designed.

    Hi Gorazd,

Could you please mention me what is the definition of "core switch" here? It should be another Aruba switch? In our network diagram, our core switch is Cisco Catalyst 6509 switch and still have many other Cisco Catalyst Layer 2 edge switch.

If the folder contain only one Aruba switch, and only connect to one of the Cisco Catalyst switch, not connect to another Aruba switch, if filter by this folder, none of the switch display in topology.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Jackson.

VisualRF will show device when you apply folder filter only when there are at least two connected devices in the folder. Regardless of type. It can be two switches connected by uplink or switch and AP or switch and router,... The other requirement is that LLDP is enabled on the switch. CDP can also be used but you need to configure AirWave to read CDP info from device.

I believe in your case the Aruba switch should be shown in the topology when cisco and aruba switch are in the same folder or if you select folder with cisco switch and folder with aruba switch in the same filter.

If you by any chance connect AP to Aruba switch and add this AP into the same folder as Aruba switch, you will always see this switch when you apply filter for only this folder.

I have Aruba, Comware, ArubaCX and cisco switches in my environment and all are shown in the topology.

    Best, Gorazd
