The HPE orange serial cable helped me connect to the AP and see what was going on during the boot loop. After several failed attempts to login I was able to successfully factory reset the unit and then enter the default password to get in, and to eventually get to the web interface and upgrade the firmware.

There is a warning sign next to the port to not plug a standard micro USB cable as it doesn't work. It's just a micro USB connector, but feeding serial console signals.

I am having apparently the same problem, however I am not able to even establish a console connection using the micro USB port to my MacBook. My mac doesn't see the USB in the /dev folder. Any suggestions / tips for how to flash the FW using tftp as you mentioned?

That's correct I am using it as an Instant AP.
I was able to flash a new FW onto the device using tftp which seemed to solve all my issues! I was not holding my breath given that the 8.10 package loaded looked OK, but as you mentioned it could have been wiped incorrectly.

Your best bet may be to contact the seller or TAC for support, as it's possible the AP was incorrectly wiped/reset prior to selling. It could be possible to attempt to load a new image version from the console, however, the boot message you've listed implies that the AP is trying to load a valid image (8.10.0.0) and is unable to access a local filesystem.
Since this is posted in the controllerless forum, you are attempting to use the AP as a standalone Instant AP rather than paired with a Mobility Controller/Gateway?

I am able to get a DHCP IP address, but seems I am not able to find the rootfs file? Any thoughts on if this is a problem I can solve, or if I should return the AP?
