Good day everyone,
I'm sure this has been addressed but I cannot find much either here or online, perhaps I am not using the right keywords but I don't know where else to turn.
We purchased an Aruba 7030 Wireless controller and the AP505 Access Points for campus deployment. I am in no way versed in HP deployments and was told to "make it better" so I have the following questions...
1) Do I need a domain controller for this deployment? This was supposed to be a stand alone system where I would be able to throw it on the network and it would control the APs for the SSID changes and VLAN access through those SSIDs.
2) How do I create a certificate for this device to allow the APs to connect?
3) When I go to the AP and tell it to convert to a campus AP and connect to the controller it fails to download the image, am I supposed to upload an AP image to the controller somewhere? If I tell it to convert to a remote AP, it tells me that it failed to set up the VPN.
Any assistance or advice is appreciated. I was told this would be "easy" to configure but, like anything you don't know, trying to fumble through it is going to be a "half ___" job. I would prefer it be correct for the next guy coming in.
If anyone has a step-by-step guide for setting these things up, or troubleshooting rather, I would appreciate it. I have found a couple of videos online from the HP Tech Writer and, I believe, "Connect Now" but their systems connect where mine fails to connect and I can't find anything that addresses failed connections.
I apologize for not giving all the information, the Controller is a 7030 with AOS 8.3, the APs are new but I don't remember which AOS is on them. I've read that if the AP has a higher software than the controller there is a problem. We don't have a software agreement with HP (again, I'm not well versed in HP equipment and was unaware we couldn't download the latest software without the agreement) so I can't download the latest version. The APs appear to be shipping with version 8.7.1.3_79817 (this one was pulled from the box and connected)
This system is new, most of the APs have not been unboxed yet as I didn't want to unbox everything until I knew something about it and had a few working properly.
Thanks,
Nate
