  • 1.  Aruba 8320 40G to 10G breakout cable

    Hi,

I was checking the latest AOS and AOS-CX Transceiver Guide (Edition 10) and I have a couple questions in regards to breakout cables (QSFP+ to 4x10GSFP+):

    1) Can we use a SR4 MPO Transceiver (JG325B) with a breakout cable (K2Q47A) and use the "split" command thus having 4 x TenGig interfaces? Or is this scenario only possible with the 721076-b21(HPE BLc QSFP+ to 4x10G SFP+ AOC 15m Op) cable?

2)There is no support for the UT (unsupported transceiver) command for a 40G to 10G AOC cable in the AOS-CX switches, am I correct? We are wondering if we can use an existing AOC QSFP+to 4x10GSFP+ cable in the 8320s.

    Thanks!

    Hello Juan,

    I believe that:

    1. The correct scenario for your Aruba 8320 should be the one where the JH231A (HPE X142 40G QSFP+ MPO SR4 Transceiver <- 4x4 part 1990-4554) + K2Q47A (HPE MPO to 4 x LC 15m Cable) are deployed together to have the source QSFP+ 40G link split into 4x10G and this pair should be used instead of the JG325B+K2Q47A you listed...since the JG325B SKU IMO is not supported on ArubaOS-CX based switches.
    2. It's my understanding that on ArubaOS-CX (>=10.5) the CLI command allow-unsupported-transceiver is available to enable only 1G and 10G third-party transceivers (including DACs/AOCs) and not any other faster transceivers (like QSFP+) even if they are used then to split their physical interface into more slower speed interfaces (such it will happen, as example, by using the HPE QSFP+ to 4xSFP+ 3 m Breakout Direct Attach Cable (721064-B21)).
Hope to have read documentation correctly.

    Hi Davide,

My bad. You are correct, the proper part number for the MPO SR4 QSFP+ is JH231A and as per you answer I should not have a problem using it with the K2Q47A (HPE MPO to 4 x LC 15m Cable) and create 4x10G interfaces. In regards to my last question I found an Aruba document where they confirm that the UT command is only supported for 1G and 10G transceivers, not 40G. (https://www.arubanetworks.com/assets/support/FAQ_Unsupported-Transceiver-Mode-CX.pdf)

    Thanks for the help!
