    Hello Airheads.

I am having a problem with my 370 Series Outdoor Access Point. The access point did show up in my Aruba vIrtual Controller Interface and I had it attached to my cluster but I could not get any wi-fi signal from it? I then turned on the Ethernet Bridge and all things are lost now. Would any of you know what I could not get wi-fi going even though I saw it in my virtual controller software along with 16 other Access Points? I know it sounds simple but I was trying to do anything I could through the controller software.

    Thoughts?

Which Aruba OS Version are you running?

Is this the first AP-370 you are using, or are the others also AP-370?

Please do a "show profile-errors" on cli.

    regards

    Markus

    Hi Jean,

What AP-370 Series model are you using and at which ArubaOS instant firmware version?

Some checks you can consider that came up in my mind:
    • Can you ping the access points.
    • Maybe you can factory reset the AP and login directly to it. (keep it away temp. from your layer 2 Instant Cluster)
    • Check the firmware level is equal to your Instant Cluster.
    • The access point must be in the same layer two vlan to be part of the Instant cluster.
    • If the AP is in not broadcasting, possible check your regulatory domain settings for outdoor use.
    • If the AP had external antenna (AP-374) you should check your atenna gain (dBi settings) in the AP system profile.
In any urgent matter always open an Aruba Support TAC ticket.

    Thanks Gang for the replies.

I reset to factory defaults and then started from scratch.

The device is "online" now and is broadcasting but I can't get any devices on it? It shows up in the GUI Dashboard. I can modify it's settings. The model itself is a 374. Puzzling.

    Here's a screen shot.

How are you powering the 370?

Sounds like the AP is coming up but the radios aren't. Keep in mind the 370s require 802.3at (30W) PoE and that the radios will not work if using 802.3af .

Did you set the required gain (dBi) for the external antennas?

    Hi Jean-Claude,

The AP-374 require external antenna's with N-Type connectors that are covered under the aesthetic cover. The AP-375 has internal omni-directional antenna's.

    • See the AP-370 datasheet here, link.
    • See the AP-370 installation guide here, link.
There are a width range of available antenna options depend on your need. Be sure to use supported antennas only.

    Hello Mkk,
Thanks for the reply. I have turned on the Radios but not the external Antennas? I did not know they work hand in hand? I have the option to turn on radios as well as external antennas. Do I set both? I have a 374 but I did not buy extra antennas? Where did you find the configuration because I have looked everywhere for the correct setup?

    Thanks again!
    - Jean-Claude

    Hi Jean-Claude,

Yes for 5GHz only you need only the 5GHz antennas. Depending on your environment needs   you can choice for omni-directional or sector/patch antennas with different antenna gains.

It's strongly recommended to use support antennas only. When your not familar with external antennas my advise is to contact your local Aruba Partner for the best solution.

When you look for omni-directional antennas Aruba provide two different models for 5GHz, one with 5dBi and one with 10dBi. How higher the attena gain (more dBi) how flatter your "balloon" gets. Remember that a higher antenna gain is most often not always better and depends on your needs.

    JW026A  ANT-2x2-5005 Pair 5GHz 5dBi Omni N-type Direct Mount Outdoor Antennas
    JW027A  ANT-2x2-5010 Pair 5GHz 10dBi Omni N-Type Direct Mount Outdoor Antennas

Because your AP is 4x4 you need for example 2x JW026A.

Please don't send PM but just replay in this topic for sharing knownledge ;).
