    Dear Experts,

I am confused in HA Fast Failover setup in two standalone 7210 controllers. I have seen VRRP based redundancy option, but can we achieve HA FF (<60 msec or something like that) using 2x7210 as active active without MM/conductor?

I read that FF like 6.x is not possible and it depends on VRRP. Is it correct in the latest version like 8.10/8.11 also? we cannot achieve subsecond failover without MM?

If yes, will it also sync configuration and database?

You already looked into documentation where Fast Failover is described. Answer is no, it's still the same limitations as before if you are not using MM.

The sessions are not synchronized in FF, but client state can be synchronized.

    From documentation:

High Availability: Fast Failover provides redundancy for APs, but not for controllers. Deployments that require conductor controller redundancy should continue to use an existing VRRP redundancy solution.

In FF scenario with separated controllers you need to manage configurations for each controller manually. You can also go with Master-Local configuration and sync will be done by Master. Many options here and a lot of confusion can be added to the network configuration. MM is more elegant solution (but it has it's own caveats).

MM add a lot of benefits to the WiFi network. It is also worth to look into AOS10 with Aruba Central.

    Dear Gorazd,

can you give more details for Master-Local configuration and sync will be done by Master or any other way to sync the configuration?

same situation of having two separate controller and want to have FF as it make failover less other than the VRRP (I think but not really know the exact time)

    Elashiam,

Did you read further down this discussion? In the post at the bottom (moment of writing), there are links to documentation and even a video.

As mentioned, Mobility Conductor (MCR or MM), is the recommended solution for quick recovery in failover scenarios. If your looking in Conductor-Standby, that will probably not result in an optimal solution.

    Hi Elashiam.

As Herman is already pointed out, MM is preferred solution to provide fastest possible failover.

If you can go with AOS10 and Central using 7220 as WiFi Gateways and Central as management platform, then this would be the second possible solution,

It depend on your available budget (cost of MM + licenses + support vs cost of Central subscriptions vs current configuration). and required failover time. If VRRP is not good enough, then you need to budget properly for one of the proposed solutions.

It is referring to standalone conductor? and then showing configuration for standalone controller?

    little confused

Change in wording from what was previously used (inclusive language initiative) but still refers to a pair of standalone controllers running in a VRRP pair with database synchronization.

This is the link for Aruba OS 8.5 https://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/ArubaOS_85_Web_Help/Content/arubaos-solutions/vrrp/conf-high-avai.htm

Another video (without the MM) which can be helpful can be found under this link: Aruba Wireless controller Master and Standby | Controller Redundancy without MM | AOS 8.6

Not sure if this is of any help :)
