  • 1.  Bad ethernet jack?

I have a Pavillion ze5375us notebook. All of a sudden my ethernet connection just quit working. Now, whenever I plug an ethernet cable into the jack, rather than the light just turning green and staying on, it flashes the green light then flashes the orange light then they both turn off. This repeats about every 5 seconds. I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem because I have tried three different cables in both Windows and Linux and have experienced the same issue. I think the problem could be a bad pin in the jack but I'm not sure. Does anyone know if this is the case or what else could be wrong. Any help in addressing and fixing this problem would be great.

I realize that I may not have been specific enough in my first post. The ethernet card that I have is a National Semiconductor DP8315 10/100 MacPhyter. I have taken a look at the manual for it but there isn't much about the status LEDs. Hopefully someone here has seen this before and can point me in the right direction.

    Hi Neil,

An ethernet card is pretty cut and dry. It either works or it doesn't.

The lights tell you about your connection.

In order to test to see if your ethernet card is any good would be to try another.

They are fairly inexpensive right now.

If it works, then you know the original bit the dust....

    FYI

here is your online specs and manuals:
