    Hi,

We have two switches which are stacked together as commander and standby switch, now we want to add another switch in the stacking. But we already used two stacking ports with the existing switches. We have to remove one cable and then add the new switch as the ring or chain fashion. Is there any specific procedure to remove the cable from the stack and do we expect any flap if we remove only one cable from the stacking module ?

    HI,

Assuming AOS BPS ( back pane stacking)

you can add a switch, a ring topology is the general recommendation ( as opposed to a 'chain' ) for resilience.

Check out the Switch Stacking presentation attached.

It contains general recommendations and config examples and a process to add a switch to the stack. (slide 23). Ensure the new member is factory defaulted before connecting to the stack . All or most of what you need should be in the presentation examples.

The switch addition should not impact the existing stack members ,but of course recommended to plan /add with appropriate change controls if in a live network in case of unforeseen events (large elbows knocking  power leads , mistyped config/incorrect cable removed etc)

    Regards,
