Controllerless Networks

Hi All,

We have issue for one of our clients, they have a controlless network, which is managed by Virtual Controller IAP 315.  Our issue is we have been trying to add an outdoor Aruba AP-365 (RW) Outdoor AP (JX966A) but this can't be managed by the Virtual Controller IAPs.

1) Is it possible to upgrade the IOS on the Aruba AP-365 (RW) Outdoor AP to make virtually managed?  If not can we use an old controller like ARUBA 800 or 2400 to manage both the IAPs and AP-365 . If so does all the AP needs to be phycially connected by cable to the controller. Below is a list of equipment whis is in the site. 

5 * ARUBA IAP-305 

2 * ARUBA IAP-315

2 * ARUBA IAP-207

1 * Aruba AP-365 (RW) Not working on the network.

The minimum SW requirement for AP360 is:

Unified ArubaOS and InstantOS 6.5.2.0 and 8.2.0

Is your instant network on 8.2 or higher?

Hi Jaybee, 

We are running 6.5.1.0-4.3.1.2_58595, so does that mean it  can be upgaded to a IAP Access Point, if so can you direct me?  Do I need to upgrade the IOS to 6.5 ? And then will it work?

The AP-365-RW should come with Instant firmware (or Unified firmware for early production models). If the AP has been converted to controller firmware, you can factory reset it to get back to IAP/Unified boot. From there make sure the AP is upgraded to the same version that your cluster is running on. As that version is below 6.5.2, first upgrade the existing cluster to a version that supports all different APs (AP-365 requires 6.5.2 or up as mentioned in an earlier response).

If you add the AP to the existing cluster, the new AP will not even come up because of an incompatible software version conflict. So it can be that that is the reason you can't see your new 365.

Cluster with 207, 305, 315 and 365 should work. I would upgrade to 6.5.4.8 (if you need a Conservative release) or 8.3.0.3. If you don't have a support contract, check what version the 'Check Version' comes up with.
