Yes, however in the AOS10 architecture the controller is no longer controlling the access-points, Central is doing that. For that reason the controller is named a gateway in AOS10, and performs the tunneling/VLAN overlay with stateful firewall (and a few more non-controlling tasks).

Central does not support gateways/controllers on AOS 8.x, just on AOS 10.
The scenario where gateways are supported in Central and AOS 8.x is SD-Branch, but there the recommended version is AOS-10. Virtual gateways are just supported as VPNC (VPN concentrator) as far as I know.
Not really sure what you are trying to achieve.
