That isn't a requirement, only the APs need to be in an AOS 10 group. APs and gateways do not have to be in the same group and in most cases shouldn't be in the same group.
When you move a controller to a new group, device level configuration is retained

Hi, because we need to use tunneled SSIDs on AOS10 APs.

What's the reason for creating a new group for a SD-Branch gateway? There is zero functionality difference in the backend.

Subject: Central - moving Branch GW to now group
Hi experts,
I have a question about moving our customers branch GWs from one group to another. The source group is AOS8 architecture Branch GW UI group and GW has firmware 10.4.1.3. Destination group is AOS10 architecture Branch GW UI group. So I need to know what happened with the current configuration of GW when I move it to AOS10 group. All current configuration will be overwrite by destination configuration? And what about local overrides such as IP addresses?
Thanks and best regards
