Understood.
So, for AOS-8 we could say that live-upgrade can be executed when you select the group/cluster and the option to "Reboot devices after software is installed" is not present.
Versus.
For standard upgrade, you should go to the respective node or directly into each device and perform the update individually with the option to "Reboot devices after software is installed" present.
I can upload and reboot each one OR I can upload image to all of them and reboot in a later time, without activating a "live upgrade".

AOS 8, just choose the "reboot" option after the image upload. Or upload the image to all of the devices and then go through and reboot each and every one.
Make sure to upgrade the MCR(s) first.
WebUI option when logged in directly to the device:
You can attempt from the MCR as well, by choosing the group or specific controller. Note, if you choose a group that includes clusters and choose a cluster for upgrade, that will always attempt a live upgrade. Instead navigate to the cluster node, then you can upgrade that specific node instead.
Example when looking at a specific controller:

Sorry, I was going to put this in the previous message and forgot.
I'm in version 8.10 in MCR(Conductors) but I have some cluster in older versions like 6 or 7 that I would like to upgrade to 8.10.14.
That screen you shared look nice, but I have not seen such options in AOS 8. I guess this is what I was looking to ask in the first place. How to do these multiples choices in AOS8?

Live - attempts no outage, can be run Now or scheduled (Later Date).
Standard - everything is rebooted immediately after software is downloaded.
Are you talking about AOS 8 or AOS 10?
Guessing AOS 10 since you're using terminology from the web UI.

Appreciate the information, very helpful.
In terms of what trigger each one is depending on the Now/Later option?
- Live upgrade - initiated selecting "Now"
- Standard upgrade - initiated selecting "Later"

Not fully sure what version you are on, AOS8 or AOS10, but with the upgrades you have options to run a:
- Live upgrade; makes sure that APs and controllers/gateways are not always upgraded at the same time, which results in no service interruption (if you have enough AP overlap and enough controller/gateway capacity).
- Standard upgrade; much faster as APs and controllers/gateways will be restarted as soon as possible, resulting in a service interruption during the upgrade.
Then there is the Now / Later; which schedules the upgrade (later) or initiates it now.
Live updates are not so much delayed (if you upgrade 'now') it just takes time to migrate APs away from controllers/gateways that are rebooted, and reboot APs in smaller sets such that there is coverage all the time.
If you don't care about downtime, standard upgrade sounds great and fast.

Thanks for this information.
To clarify on this, you are telling me that if I go to the "Software Management" and select: "Now" it will do the "live" upgrade where the APs are moved to the standby controller in order to upgrade later and rollback to the original controller after the controller is active again, etc, etc.
But if I select: "Later" I will generate a scheduled installation that do not do the "live" process. Can you describe a little bit what will be the process on this one? All the controllers reboot at the same time or something like that.
We are ok with the "maintenance window" at night, but from what I read from other reviews, sometimes "Live" updates can be delayed by 9 hours. That will be too much for us.

Hello Carriv,
Normally, depending on the equipment in the cluster, it may take more or less time to do the live upgrade, for example, an AP may take between 4 and 5 minutes to upgrade. What you can do if you don't want to do a live upgrade, is a cluster upgrade schedule, where you can set the time and day of no business hours to run the upgrade. I attach the link to the document where you can see the process to follow.
https://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/ArubaOS_8.11.0_Web_Help/Content/arubaos-solutions/cluster/sche-clus-upgr.htm
If not, you always have the option to do the upgrade manually, but it may be more tedious.
Thanks

Where do I find the documentation or steps to upgrade a cluster but avoiding the "Live upgrade". What steps do I need to take?
Live upgrade took too much time last time it was executed and I read somewhere that the "Standard" upgrade is the way to go but do not explain in deep what this entails.
Thanks
