Evo n800c was upgraded from win2k to winxp and now the Compaq 802.11b multiport USB lan card cannot be configured with ssid or excryption. The win2k drivers were removed, and the winxp drivers installed from sp21123. The device shows up in Devmgr as working properly, but there is no configuration tab in the nic properties to configure anything. The sp does not include any client either. How do I get this wireless nic configured now with the proper ssid, encryption, and key settings?

This card come out before XP...and XP support needs more functionality which was added by a device firmware upgrade. To allow WZC to work this device please install the firmware upgrade in this softpaq:

Nice try - but the answer is to start the WZC service. When upgrading from Win2k to WinXP, the WZC is not enabled by default.
Keypoint: Whenever the "Wireless" tab is missing from the wirless NIC properites panel, this is an indication that the WZC service is not running (is everyone listening?). Once the WZC service was started, the the wireless tab showed up in teh NIC properties panel which then allows for SSID and encryption key settings.
If you read the "UPGRADE.TXT" file that comes with SP21123, you will find that in step "11) At this point, if your module's firmware needs to be upgraded, a dialog will appear telling you that your firmware needs to be upgraded." This did not happen, so no firmware upgrade was needed.
