i have a compaq armada 1700 laptop it is asking for a power on password which i do not know this laptop was given to the us by a physician who closed his practice. any help would be appreciated.

To clear BIOS passwords you usually need to remove the BIOS battery, I know on older HP PAVILION NOTEBOOKS there is a certain key combination to remove the BIOS password. I would call COMPAQ TECH support and explain the situation to them and they should be able to help you..
