  • 1.  Connectivity problem with 2930F switch

    Posted Jan 23, 2018 06:38 PM

    Hi guys,

I am very new with Aruba switches and I have a problem with switch 2930F. I want to upgrade the firmware, the switch is new with the factory configuration. I have configured an IP address as:

    switch(config)#vlan 1 ip address 192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0

Then I have configured in my laptop IP 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 and I have connected my laptop Ethernet port to switch port 1.

In that way, I can ping from my laptop to the switch IP address, even I can telnet into it. But I can't ping from the switch to my laptop, and when I want to download the new firmware from my laptop through TFTP to do the upgrade, the switch console shows a connectivity error with 192.168.1.2.

What could be the problem? Any ideas?

On the other hand, is there any upgrade guide for this switch? I have browsed manuals HPE ArubaOS-Switch Management and Configuration Guide K/KA/KB.16.01 and HPE ArubaOS-Switch Advanced Traffic Management Guide K/KA/KB.16.01 and there's nothing about upgrade. The only thing I have found by googling is this

    https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/82205-how-to-update-hp-switch-firmware

and works well, but I would like to find any HP upgrade official guide.

    Regards,

    Julián

Do you have the windows firewall on?

As far as upgrading you should be able to run this command (assuming you are running a tftp server on your laptop)

copy tftp flash 192.168.1.2 (firmware file name).swi primary

btw, this is an easy tftp server to get running https://tftpd64.codeplex.com/

    Hi Robert,

Good point, yes, I have the Windows firewall enabled. Tomorrow I will disable it and let you know.

Thanks for TFTP server link, in fact it is the one I use!

Thanks for the command for upgrading as well, I have just found a guide which includes the upgrading process (HPE ArubaOS-Switch Basic Operation Guide 16.02).

    Regards,

    Hi Robert,

I have disabled the Windows firewall and the connectivity problem has gone, thank you very much.

For the upgrading procedure I have been able to upgrade this switch (JL253A) using the procedure you explained, however, I haven't been able to upgrade my other switch (JL259A) to the same version. This is the output:

    SW-ACCESS1# copy tftp flash 10.115.70.10 WC_16_03_0007.swi primary
The primary image will be deleted.

    Continue (y/n)? y
    020M

Validating and Writing System Software to the Filesystem ...

    SW-ACCESS1# show flash
    Image Size (bytes) Date Version
    ----------------- ------------ -------- --------------
    Primary Image : 20530856 10/26/16 WC.16.02.0014
    Secondary Image : 20530856 10/26/16 WC.16.02.0014

    Boot ROM Version
    ----------------
Primary Boot ROM Version : WC.16.01.0003
Secondary Boot ROM Version : WC.16.01.0003

    Default Boot Image : Primary
    Default Boot ROM : Primary

    SW-ACCESS1#

I don't know but the new software is not loaded into the primary flash, but the console doesn't throw any error. I have tried with the secondary flash and with the same result.

What could be the problem? Any workaround?

    Regards,

    Julián

    Greetings!

Are there any error messages displayed in the system log ('show log -r') related to the software image copy?

That is quite curious.  Have you tried re-downloading the WC.16.03.0007 image from the support site?  Alternately, I would suggest trying a different version (e.g., WC.16.04.0011) and seeing if you get the same result.  If so, I would recommend opening a support case so we can investigate the issue further.
