That should work, unless the AP is already configured, and after first login a new password has to be set. A factory reset may help in that case.
Another option is that this AP is managed through Central or Airwave, in which case the password is set through the configuration. If an AP is managed, after a factory reset it will automatically connect back and push the configuration that is in Central or in Airwave.
If you got the AP delivered directly from the factory, you should be able to login with admin and the serial number (upper-case). If you got it through a previous owner, very likely it's still being managed.
