  • 1.  convert 615 AO instant AP

I need to convert some 615 APs to instant for some of our remote offices.

What is the correct procedure for doing this?

I have connected one 615 to an isolated network and see the setmeup with mac but never I'm able to open a browser window to configure the AP.

I can ssh to the AP using admin and serial number and I see this:

    Password:
Warning: CLI is currently running in upgrade-only mode. Only upgrade operation is supported, other operations may not function.

Our wireless environment is still at version 8.7.1.11 (FIPS).

    Please advise.

If you can't open the browser window, make sure that you have disconnected all other network connections (like wired). If you can SSH into the AP, you know it's IP address and can try to do an http://ip-of-the-AP; or https://ip-of-the-AP; or https://ip-of-the-AP:4343 and see if that gives you access; and/or clear browser cache, use different browser.

If that all does not work, you can also use the SSH session to initiate an upgrade (and possible RAP conversion).
To convert the AP to a controller based Campus/RAP AP:
    ap615# convert-aos-ap cap 192.168.32.250
    ap615# convert-aos-ap rap 192.168.32.250

Please note that if you want to convert the AP615 to a RAP/CAP, the controller needs to be on 8.11 or higher as well; so you will need to upgrade the controller first; and if you go to 8.11 make sure all of your current APs are still supported in that version. Many AP-200 series APs can run up to 8.10 firmware; check here for the end-of-life information.
If convert doesn't work (have not tried that from a 'provisioning image'), or if you want to convert to an Instant AP, if you placed the firmware on an http/ftp/tftp server (192.168.32.20 in the example below), you can use the upgrade-image command from the AP:

    ap615# upgrade-image http://192.168.32.20/ArubaInstant_Leo_8.11.0.1_85785
