I'm at my wits end with these rack mounts... Am I using them wrong? Even the installation guide illustrates the "regular" previous version. I understand that we should use 4-post rails with heavier switches, but that shouldn't be necessary with the 6000 and 6100.

Considering the lower screw will take most of the lever force, I assume I could do one screw in the middle and one below.

What is the reasoning behind this design change?

I am not going to be much help here, but I do totally agree with you. I hate this particular ear design. They need to make the outside edges even with the inside edges.

Unless you are installing these in a two post threaded rack, the top screws just don't line up to make you feel good about the install.

Speaking personally, I am a huge fan of this kind of design.  Being able to rest the bottom set of holes on a pre-threaded screw to both properly locate and take the load of the switch is a huge benefit while racking equipment if you don't have things like server lifts or extra sets of hands.

I agree with you on that, it does make it easier to install especially one-man install jobs. These particular ears just don't work well when installing in a rack that uses cage nuts like the OP pictured. There is too much bolt wriggle room and the top bolt/not just about always slides up not making good secure contact with the ear IMO.

One way around this I have done in the past is to use the bottom and middle mounting holes when mounting with cage nuts..

Thanks for the input! I agree on this point, although previously I would just insert screws in the holes just below to rest the switch on in the same manner.

Is there a replacement part we can ask HPE/Aruba to ship instead of these? I have zero confidence in racking my switches with rack studs and these mounting ears....

    Talk about literally cutting corners...

Have you checked with support or through your local Aruba partner or Aruba sales team? The ordering guide may (depending on the switch type) suggest alternative mounting brackets/systems.

    Hey Herman,

     Unfortunately - its not clear.

Aruba 6100 Switch Series Installation Guide (arubanetworks.com) - indicates that 4 different rack-mount parts, and searching for more information on these parts comes up with no results.

Rack mount part 5300-1364 is the open ear type which comes with my switch model, which has a weight of 4.2KG

Looks like 5300-1365 is the close ear type variety (from a vague ebay picture.....) and ships with switches that weigh less than mine (a POE model)...

I'm not an expert on rackmount kits, it may be good to work with your local Aruba partner or Aruba SE.

From the configurator, as well in the installation guide that you refer to, I see that there is one alternative rack-mount kit: "The 24-port and 48-port switches can also be mounted in 4-post racks and cabinets by using the X410 Switch Rail Kit (J9583A). For instructions on using the kit, see the documentation included with the kit."; but it also seems available here.

If you have issues with the supplied mounting ears, please contact support.

I don't see any plastic washers here ... maybe that would help.

looks as those are not rck mount screws 12-24 you need to make sure your using rack screws that

are for the specific rack the back should be located in the network room on top of equipment mounted i found some there.

    Usually in clear plastic bag
