Solved it.  Under AAA profiles where had our guest profile, under that under mac auth was not using a profile, set that one over to default, applied changes, deleted my test device off the controller with aaa user delete mac 34:42: then retried and connected through fine.

    Controller Version 8.11.2.2

    We do not use Clearpass

I am trying to get mac address access working on our guest network without needing the captive portal.

I have added my test device as a user in the internal DB, the username and password are the mac address all lower-case no delimiter, I have also turned off private mac address so connect with the same mac each time.

When it tried to connect and the captive portal loads, I can see the client listed on the mobility controller with a role of Auth_Guest-guest-logon if I use my guest user account it would log me on and change my role over to guest and can browse the internet fine.

However we have a number of devices we want to just connect and auth via mac and that is the bit struggling with.

Can someone please help where I have not ticked a box or something.

    Thanks
