    Hi,

Please tell me if i can use this Aruba transceiver - J4859D instead of this one Comware - JD119B. All switches are Comware.

    Thanks,
    Cosmin

Hello Cosmin, generally the answer should be: No, you can't (deployed Transceivers and DACs SKUs should match what your Switch's QuickSpecs reports as "supported option")...it's also true - to some extents - that some 3rd Party Transceivers can work while being recognized as "phony" transceivers...but there is absolutely NO guarantee they work correctly.

What are the SKUs of your Comware OS based switch(es) requiring 1G SFP LC LX transceivers to be deployed?

Please find below the architecture that i already ordered. I work as a BDM - Aruba, my partner has to deliver the solution next week, and i am not sure what transceiver should i propose, because JD119B is not avaible anymore, with no ETA.

    Line# Part Number Description Quantity
    1.0 JG940A HPE 5130 24G POE+ 2SFP+ 2XGT EI Sw [discontinued] 2
    1.1 JD118B HPE X120 1G SFP LC SX Transceiver 4
    2.0 JL829A HPE 5140 48G 4SFP+ EI Switch 1
2.1 JL829A      ABB   INCLUDED: Power Cord - Europe localization 1
    2.2 JD119B HPE X120 1G SFP LC LX Transceiver 2
    3.0 JL823A HPE 5140 24G POE+ 2SFP+ 2XGT EI Switch 1
3.1 JL823A      ABB   INCLUDED: Power Cord - Europe localization 1
    3.2 JD118B HPE X120 1G SFP LC SX Transceiver 2

Hi Cosmin, I've nothing to say about the JD119B HP X120 1G SFP LC LX Transceiver unavailability on your market (it's a little bit strange to see that the JD118B short range can be found but not so the JD119B long range...that's the market, I guess).

I can only say that the J4859D Aruba 1G SFP LC LX 10km SMF Transceiver could work once installed into HPE 5130/5140 (please note I wrote "could" and not "should"). At best - in case it will effectively work - an additional thing you could do is to disable phony-transceivers warnings (with the transceiver phony-alarm-disable CLI command).

Question: is it a strict requirement to use a pair of LX transceivers? I mean, is the related fiber optic run longer than 550 meters?

Yes it is, thank you for your time. We will try with the Aruba ts, will let you know.

    Thanks again.

    Hi berechet17,

my answer to your question is "Yes, it will work (partially)".

Five weeks ago, i was in the same situation and had no other alternative.
I used J4858C and J4858D transceivers to satisfie our customer aswell as J4859D (LX) in 5130HI-48G and 5140-12G Models.
    BUT There are drawbacks!
    - On the transceiver the DOM (Diagnostic-on-Module) will not work!
    - You will most certainly get no help from HPE with any problem on those switches (also warranty is void)
    - Dynamic Laser-Powering does not work (this will cause issues on some situations) - One thing, that I encountered.

I had to replace some switches of my customer, which is directly connected to a third partner.
The IT-Dept of the third Partner was complaining that the new switches were overpowering the Receiver their Transceivers.
I hat to explain the problems with the delivery chain. I took us three weeks to get 8 freakin' Transceivers.
In the end i even hat to replace the third partners transceivers!!! (Cisco btw.)

So be aware, that the usage of "wrong" transceivers can bring their own set of problems with them!

    Have a safe routing-table ;)
