The Airwave API documentation can be found here. The detailed AP calls seem to match what you are looking for. I think that it's mainly actual data.
For historical data, the live webUI, and Airwave's reporting feature should be able to provide you that information. You can also schedule reports and include CSV files with detailed data.

Subject: Historical information of client numbers via Airwave API
Hello,
My university uses Aruba technology as their endpoint management system for wifi access (not device auth/management). We are looking to get some occupancy numbers and the systems admins suggested looking into the Airwave API. Just from going over it, I can't see which functions would give us exactly that (i.e., clients per AP).
1) Is that possible, and if so, which API endpoint(s) did I overlook?
2) Is it possible to retrieve historical information (if so how) or would they have to pull the data once an hour or so and store somewhere themselves?
Apologies for the vague information given but it's all I got to work with at the moment.
Thanks!
